Trieste Science+Fiction Festival is the most important film festival in Italy exploring the worlds of science fiction and the fantasy genre through cinema, television, new media, literature, comics, music, performative and visual arts. The eighteen edition of the event will take place from 30 October to 4 November with several movies, guests and special events, starting from the long-awaited “First Man”. The movie, directed by the Oscar winner Damien Chazelle starring Ryan Gosling in the role of the astronaut Neil Armstrong, will inaugurate the Festival on Tuesday 30 October.

The famous British writer Richard K. Morgan will be one of the special guest of the event, participating as President of the jury of the Asteroide Award competition, the prize given each year to the best debut feature science-fiction or fantasy film by an emerging director.

Furthermore, Douglas Trumbull will attend the event in Trieste and will receive the Silver Urania Award 2018 to the carrier during the official ceremony held at the Politeama Rossetti on Thursday 1 November. The director, producer and special effects creator Douglas Trumbull, winner of two Oscar Awards, is known for his visual contribution to “2001: A Space Odyssey”, this year celebrating its fiftieth birthday, and also known for several other science fiction masterpieces such as “Blade Runner” and “Close Encounters of the Third Type”.
