Job opportunities for PhDs, postdocs and Alumni 

The Valorisation & Innovation Office and the Alumni Association offer a valuable online job-finding service for PHD students, post-docs, and SISSA Alumni. In this project, the two bodies collaborate in the sharing of job offers, joining forces in monitoring and selecting the most suitable and interesting ones. COVID-19 emergency: stronger psychological support for the student community

To help mitigate the powerful emotional impact of the extended COVID emergency, SISSA is acting to strengthen the psychological assistance provided to the students. The initiative has been promoted by the Student Council through the CUG. The free consultancy service currently offered by SISSA and the Regional Agency for the Right to Education (ARDIS) is to be increased by an additional 4 hours per week, provided either face-to-face or remotely. Procedures to select the service provider are already underway.

2021 financial assistance and contributions towards summer camp costs

SISSA is currently proposing agreements with various tax centres for assistance in completing tax return forms for the 2020 tax year (Form 730/2021) at a discounted rate. The services may be provided by direct, deferred or telematic means. The School will also make arrangements this year with the managers of various private summer camps to enable it to contribute to the costs of attendance for the children of its employees, PhD students and research fellows. All those eligible for this benefit will be invited by email to register their interest with regard to children who are due to enter summer camps by May 2021.

A new Read & Publish agreement

A new Read & Publish agreement has been recently signed between SISSA and Wiley through the CRUI –CARE Consortium. During 2020 similar agreements were also signed with Springer and American Chemical Society. In this way, SISSA corresponding authors can not only read articles in traditionally subscribed journals, but also publish open access at no additional cost (only on hybrid journals). SISSA SUMMER FESTIVAL: a preview on 28 May

The artificial mega-constellations are rapidly changing the appearance of the night sky, with important scientific repercussions. This important issue will be the subject of the "Libra" show that will be staged for the first time on 17 and 18 June 2021 during the SISSA SUMMER FESTIVAL 2021 in the Miramare Castle Park, Trieste. The video-theatrical show is produced by SISSA scientist Roberto Trotta and visual designer Gigi Funcis. A preview of the show, which will examine scientific aspects of these developments, will take place on May 28, 2021 at the Miela theatre, from 8.00 pm (time to be confirmed). The event is part of the "Scienza e Virgola" Festival organised by the SISSA Interdisciplinary Laboratory, taking place on 26-30 May 2021.

Science Communication: a webinar and a Jcom special issue

In May 2021, the Journal of Science Communication will publish a special issue entitled "Re-examining Science Communication: models, perspectives, institutions", covering current developments in the science communication landscape. The Special Issue is linked, among other things, to the European RETHINK project (H2020, EU.5.h), in which Sissa Medialab is a partner. RETHINK will provide opportunities to participate in webinars and workshops before it concludes at the end of 2021. In particular, the webinar "Good quality science communication in a digital world" will be held on 10 May; participation is open to all by registration at this link.

JSTAT HIghlights with an article by Sara Murciano, Paola Ruggiero and Pasquale Calabrese 

The Highlights section of JSTAT (The Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment), published by SISSA Medialab and IOP, contains a list of  articles from the journal selected by the editors. The highlights are published twice a year and are available free of charge for six months. The current selection contains an article by SISSA authors Sara Murciano, Paola Ruggiero and Pasquale Calabrese entitled Symmetry resolved entanglement in two-dimensional systems via dimensional reduction.
