SISSA expresses its grief for the death of Nicolò D'Amico, President of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) and Full Professor of Astrophysics at the Physics Department of the University of Cagliari. Nicolò D'Amico has been a reference point at an international level in the study and observation of pulsars and compact objects with extreme properties, having promoted and led many experiments that have revolutionized the field. Among these, the creation of the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT), a project that D'Amico has pursued over the years with conviction, vision and determination. D’Amico also had prestigious institutional positions up to the INAF Presidency. From there, he actively collaborated with SISSA in the major projects that the School shares with INAF. With his death, a key figure in the continuous and active coordination of the research that both institutions carry out is missing. In this painful moment, SISSA offers an act of closeness to the family, to all colleagues.
