A SISSA's project wins the CURE Foundation Innovator Award

The project, led by SISSA professor Mallamaci Antonello, aims to develop a new line of therapeutic treatment for gene haploinsufficiencies, a particular class of genetic deficiency associated with a wide variety of rare neuro-cognitive syndromes. Despite recent advances in genome engineering, they are currently incurable. This new treatment is designed to stimulate transcription and translation of the surviving alleles using appropriate non-artificial RNA coding in a specific way, restoring a normal level of gene expression.

SISSA pays tribute to Walter Kohn

Walter Kohn, renowned Austrian theoretical physicist and long-time SISSA’s “friend”, has passed away a few days ago. Kohn was awarded (with John Pople) the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1998. He was also well known for his activity in promoting world peace and the use of environmentally-friendly technologies. Kohn came to Trieste several times to work and collaborate with scientists from SISSA, ICTP and the University of Trieste.

SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies, pays tribute to this great man. You can read below the obituary from Erio Tosatti (SISSA/ICTP).
