The Conference of Rectors of the Italian Universities, deeply concerned by what is happening in Ukraine, animated by the conviction that attention to the construction and consolidation of peace by peaceful means is the constitutive vocation of the Academy, certain that a strong and immediate diplomatic action, conducted in good faith by all parties, is the only way to address the complexity of the ongoing conflict:

  • Supports the UN Secretary-General’s call of 23 February to respect the principles of the UN Charter, to establish a ceasefire and to embark on the path of dialogue and negotiation;
  • Firmly reaffirms the importance of peace and dialogue as irreplaceable values for the coexistence of peoples and condemns every act of violence and the abuse of human rights and fundamental freedoms;
  • Expresses genuine solidarity with the people involved and particular closeness to the entire academic community in Ukraine;
  • monitors the course of events, and considers taking action to encourage concrete efforts for the benefit and support of colleagues, students and victims of the situation, including the return to Italy of the students present in the conflict zones.
