Un oggetto così scuro da risultare quasi invisibile, anche a strumenti altamente sofisticati. La sua natura è stata a lungo oggetto di dibattito, ma attraverso indagini effettuate con l'interferometro ALMA, il gruppo di ricerca della SISSA guidato dal Prof. Andrea Lapi, che conduce ricerche sulla formazione e l'evoluzione delle galassie, è finalmente riuscito a identificarne le proprietà principali.
