It is with deep sorrow that we learn of the passing of Sandro Zagatti, a respected member of our academic community. Born in 1963 in the Bologna area, Sandro graduated in physics from the University of Bologna and began his academic career at SISSA, obtaining his doctorate in 1992 under the guidance of Prof. Arrigo Cellina, with a thesis on the calculus of variations.

Sandro significantly contributed to the academic life and research at SISSA, serving as a tenured researcher since 1996. His passion for teaching made him a reference point for many students, contributing to the teaching of advanced mathematical analysis courses both in the master's degree program in collaboration with the University of Trieste, and in our doctoral program in mathematical analysis, models, and applications.

Sandro left an indelible mark on our institution, dedicating almost 28 years to the academic and professional growth of his students and colleagues. His kindness, passion for research and commitment to imparting knowledge will continue to inspire future generations of scholars.

In this moment of sadness, we join the grief of his loved ones and wish to express our deepest condolences to them.
