The research was published in the journal BMC Biology on May 18, 2022. The research team was led by Remo Sanges of the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Avanzati Studies (SISSA) in Italy. The study showed that there was an equally active 'jump gene' in the human brain and two octopus species: Octopus vulgaris and Octopus bimaculoides.
