President of Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella will be the guest of honor of SISSA Opening Ceremony on November 19 2019.
The head of state will come to our region for this special occasion only, which will also see among the guests: the philosopher of science and evolutionist Telmo Pievani, who will hold the Lectio Magistralis; the actress Lucia Mascino, the scholar Nuccio Ordine, the biologist Antonella Viola. Radio2 journalist Massimo Cirri will host the event, while the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Tartini di Trieste will perform a live musical accompaniment.
"The day will be dedicated to serendipity in science, or curiosity-driven science, which is the true engine of scientific knowledge and technological innovation" explains Professor Stefano Ruffo, Director of SISSA. "We are truly honored by the presence of our head of state for this event, which was born out of a close contact with the Presidency and is a sign of consideration towards a small but important part of the Italian academic world like SISSA".
