According to SCImago Journal rank, Italy is in 7th place in the world for the number of scientific publications and is ranked 8th for the quality of these publications. On April 15 - the date of birth of Leonardo da Vinci - the Italian Research Day in the World is celebrated, a significant initiative for the Trieste scientific system that plays a prominent role in pursuing the excellence of Italian research internationally.

It is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and of the “Innovitalia” platform - the scientific diplomacy portal, managed by MAECI and the Ministry of University and Research (MUR). Over 80 events are scheduled including the Rome Science Festival, a scientific marathon with contributions from Italian scientists from all over the world. SISSA Director Stefano Ruffo will be one of the guests presenting the project NV centres for the test of the Quantum Jarziynski Equality (NVQJE) together with Professor Paola Cappellaro (MIT). NVQJE combines SISSA's theoretical expertise in statistical physics and quantum thermodynamics and MIT's experience on quantum sensing and is focused on quantum simulations starting from experiments on diamond defects.
