SISSA professor Giulio Bonelli, from the Theoretical Particle Physics group, is the new Director of IGAP, the Institute for Geometry and Physics in Trieste. He will be in charge for the next four years.

IGAP was founded in 2019, as a joint initiative of SISSA - Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati and ICTP - the "Abdus Salam" International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, with the aim of structuring a meeting area between mathematicians and physicists, a pole dedicated to the exchange of ideas, techniques and experiences, and to the training of young researchers interested in this fundamental and fascinating area of research. Hosted in the spaces of the old SISSA building in Miramare, the Institute organises various activities of an interdisciplinary nature and is a point of reference for PhD students, postdocs, staff and visiting scientists, also hosting an intense programme of conferences, seminars and lectures.

"I am truly honoured by this appointment and also very grateful for the trust placed in me. As the new director of IGAP, my main goal will be to foster and activate the organisation of interdisciplinary events of excellence, involving high-profile international personalities and realities from the fields of both physics and mathematics. In fact, the Institute's mission hinges precisely on interdisciplinarity, excellence and internationalisation, and I am determined to do my best to bring IGAP to further achievements along these lines, also through collaboration with other national and international research institutes. I must thank my predecessor and the board for the work they have done so far, and I will strive to coordinate our activities in the most rational manner and open to the many new developments in the field” commented Bonelli.
