Andrea Romanino will be the new SISSA Director

The second round of the election of the new Sissa Director closed on 20 May 2021 at 4.30 pm. The neuroscientist Raffaella Ida Rumiati and the theoretical physicist Andrea Romanino were the candidates who compete for the mandate, following Stefano Ruffo’s six years.

The results of the second round rank first Andrea Romanino with 72 votes, in second place Raffaella Ida Rumiatiwith 29 votes. 

The electoral body was made up of 107 people. The voters were 102, the blank ballots 1.  

To be elected in the second round it was asked to exceed two-thirds of the voters. Having passed this threshold, the new director of SISSA is Andrea Romanino.

Andrea Romanino took his degree in Physics at University of Genova in 1992 and the Ph.D. University of Pisa. His research interests are “Theory and phenomenology of fundamental interactions”. He is full professor at SISSA from 2014.

The new director will start his mandate in November 2021.
