A mini course on Fluid-Structure Interaction will be given in the framework of AMMA and mathLab activities by Prof. Alfio Quarteroni (EPFL, Lausanne) on September 24 and 25, 2014.
The title of the course is “Math. Analysis, Mod. and Appl. and mathLab mini-course on Fluid-Structure Interaction”. Fluid-structure interaction is a very interesting multi-physics and mathematical problem, dealing with the coupling of fluid dynamic effects (velocity, pressure of a fluid) with a structural component subject to stress and deformation.
Fluid-structure interaction is studied in several fields: biomedicine (interaction of blood with arterial vessels), applied biology (motility), aeronautical, naval, structural and mechanical engineering: from off-shore structures to sport applications (sails, swimmers, ...).
The mathematical foundations and several numerical methodologies (with recent advances) to face these problems will be presented.
The mini course is organized as it follows:
Part I - Motivations; Fundamentals of Domain Decomposition (DD) Methods: Wednesday 24 September 2014, 3pm-5pm, room A-133
Part II - Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) Problems and Solution Algorithms: Thursday 25 September 2014, 10:30am-12:30pm, room A-134
Part III - Application of DD-FSI Paradigms to Multiphysics Modeling: Thursday 25 September 2014, 2:30pm-4:30pm, room A-133
