Young scientists from Least Developed Countries who hold an MSc (or higher degree) can visit laboratories located in Trieste, Italy, such as SISSA, for three months to carry out collaborative research projects in Physics, Neuroscience, Mathematics, Science Outreach as well as COVID-related projects and that fall under the umbrella of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, through TWAS, will cover travel expenses and provide subsistence costs for the stay in Italy. The administration and financial operation of TWAS is undertaken by UNESCO in accordance with an agreement signed by the two organizations.
It is strongly recommended that applicants start the process well in advance as the following stages are required:
- Study the website of SISSA to consider research areas of the School and possible host supervisor;
- Get in touch with potential SISSA supervisor to introduce yourself and discuss research plan for a possible visit;
- Should there be an agreement, obtain acceptance letter from potential SISSA supervisor;
- Fill in the form in order to provide some essential information for the acceptance letter such as: a) your surname and name b) your nationality c) Name and mailing address of your home institution d) title and research field of your project e) the scientific field in which you work f) expected start of visit
