The Mathematical Physics Group of the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste, with the collaboration of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics,  organizes a workshop on the applications of algebraic geometry to physics (WAGP2000). This is part of a series of workshops and schools aiming at fostering the interaction between mathematicians working in pure algebraic geometry and researchers who are interested in applications of algebraic geometry to physics. This year's event will take place on October 16 to 19, 2000. The arrival day will be October 15, and the departure day October 20. The main theme of the Workshop will be

Algebraic Geometry and Integrable Systems.

Format: The scientific programme will  focus on three short courses, delivered by the following lecturers:

G. Felder (ETH Zurich): Poisson sigma-models and deformation quantization
E. Frenkel (UC Berkeley): W-algebras and integrable systems
D. H. Phong (Columbia University): Supersymmetric Gauge Theories and Integrable Models
Lectures will be also presented by P. van Moerbeke  and M.-H. Saito. The scientific programme will be completed by 15 shorter talks.

Expenses and support: Participants will be accommodated in one of the guest houses of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics or in hotels in downtown Trieste. The cost of accommodation and meals for a 5-day stay may vary from 300,000 to 800,000 lire according to the quality of accommodation. In particular, low-budget meals are available at the ICTP cafeteria. (1 US$=2100 lire).

Support should be available to cover the living expenses of some 30 participants. The workshop will be partly supported by SISSA and by the Italian National Research Project Geometry of Integrable Systems, funded by the Italian Ministry for Scientific Research.

WAGP2000 is the fourth event of a series of workshops and schools on algebraic geometry and physics. The previous events took place in 1996 in Trieste (WAGP96), in 1997 in Medina del Campo, Spain (WAGP97) and in 1999 in Marseille Luminy (SAGP99). Information about these activities may be gathered from the web links here under.
