Claudio Altafini

 Claudio Altafini Applied Mathematics

Claudio Altafini received a master degree ("laurea") in Electrical Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy, in 1996 and a PhD in Optimization and Systems Theory from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden in 2001. He then moved to SISSA, where he is now an assistant professor.

His main background is nonlinear modeling and control of dynamical systems, with applications in various fields: from the Control of Robotic Motion of his PhD years to the Control of Quantum Systems. In recent years his scientific interests have focused mostly on topics from Systems Biology, such as the development of mathematical models of biological processes (e.g. signaling or metabolic pathways) or the analysis of dynamical properties of large-scale complex biological networks. His current interests include also data mining and modeling of high throughput biological data and the reverse engineering of gene regulatory networks.
