Anche la SISSA partecipa a TriesteNext 2016. Il titolo della nuova edizione della manifestazione è “Umano post-umano: Verso l’Homo tecnologicus?” La manifestazione si terrà a Trieste dal 23 al 25 settembre e prevede un nutrito calendario di eventi (qui è possibile trovare il programma completo). Gli eventi SISSA si svolgeranno nel corso di tutte e tre le giornate della manifestazione e prevedono conferenze, laboratori, giochi ed attività di training.
Il 5 ottobre 2016 dalle 10.30, presso lo StarHotel Savoia Excelsior Palace di Trieste, si terrà la cerimonia di presentazione dei risultati del progetto UBE, Underwater Blue Efficiency, a cui ha partecipato SISSA con mathLab in cooperazione con MonteCarlo Yachts, Università di Udine, Cergol Engineering, DLM, Eidon Lab con Optimad, coordinato da MARE FVG e nell’ambito del programma PAR FSC della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia.
SISSA’s NeuroMicronica project – winner of the Start Cup 2015 regional award and the PNICube prize and shortlisted for the Start Cup 2015 national award – has received an ERC Proof of Concept Grant, designed to support ERC grantees with the commercial or societal application of the results of their funded research. the new grant, obtained thanks to the collaboration of multidisciplinary groups working at SISSA, adds to the long list of grants awarded to SISSA by the ERC.
Giuseppe Legname, professor of the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), has been recently appointed as Editorial Board member for the Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC).
The JBC is one of the oldest peer-reviewed scientific journals covering thematic areas such as biochemistry and molecular biology. It was established in 1905 and since 1925, it is published by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Neurofeedback is a technique used for the treatment of clinical disorders (like depression, anxiety, chronic pain, ADHD and schizophrenia etc.) and enhancement of brain performance. It is based on the “self-regulation” of brain activations underpinned by the principles of feedback control systems. Feedback systems can be found in areas such as cybernetics, industrial automation, quality control, optimization and so on.
The Inauguration of the academic year 2016/2017 of the SISSA/ICTP Master in High Performance Computing will be held in the Miramare Campus (via Beirut 4, Trieste) on September the 19th, 2016. 10 Students from all over the world are about to begin their training in Supercomputing.
Quantification of Uncertainty: Improving Efficiency and Technology - is focused on the review of recent algorithmic and mathematical advances and the development of new research directions for uncertainty quantification in the setting of partial differential equations with random inputs. As such, the workshop impacts the scientific, engineering,financial, economic, environmental,social, and commercial milieus.

Paolo Rossi, Physicist at the University of Pisa, whose eclectic interests range from particle physics to translating early medieval texts, will be the first speaker in this season’s SISSA colloquium series. His talk will focus on the study of surnames through statistical mechanics, a useful approach for investigating population genetics.
