Precision cosmology turns 20

Cosmology - the study of the origin, composition and evolution of the Universe -- intended as a "precise science" has turned 20. Twenty years have gone by since the launch of the COBE satellite, the first to take pictures of the "background radiation" of the Universe. Licia Verde, a cosmologist at ICREA in Barcelona, presented the huge progress made in our understanding of the cosmos, at a public conference to be held at SISSA.
