“Marat Sade”, the play, comes to SISSA

Second appointment with the Trieste University Theatre Centre (CUT) at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) of Trieste. Following the success of the “Merry Wives of Windsor”, now it’s the turn of “Marat Sade”, a play loosely based on the text by Peter Weiss “The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade”. Admission is free and open to the public.

JCOM Masterclasses: the first course

From September 1st to 5th the first of the four JCOM Masterclasses, educational programmes aimed at an international audience and held by international experts took place. For the 20 selected participants the course represented a unique opportunity to better understand the relationship between science and society and learn new methods to promote debate between scientists and the general public, such as discussion games and science cafés.

SISSA in Festa 2014

Venerdì 13 giugno la SISSA ha celebrato una giornata di festa e incontro con tutta la cittadinanza. Il tema di SISSA IN FESTA 2014 è stato Luce Scienza Arte, ed è stato presentato con mostre, laboratori, demonstration, conferenze, eventi e un concerto.

Al mattino, le attività sono state riservate al personale della SISSA e alle loro famiglie.

Challenge your assumptions

"Challenge Your Assumptions": una serata per discutere di nuove tecnologie e tendenze e del loro impatto sul nostro futuro. Il tutto parte da RE-SEED, un progetto per sostenere l'occupazione di giovani che hanno un elevato grado di istruzione e che vede la SISSA partner con l'Università di Udine e Friuli Innovazione.

The illness within

A special encounter has been held at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) of Trieste featuring Charles Sabine, journalist and "future" Huntington's chorea patient. Sabine gave the audience his unique personal account and addressed the importance of genetic research in fighting neurodegenerative diseases, the type of research carried out at SISSA. The event was organized by the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Advanced Studies (LISNU) and the PHD course in Structural and Functional Genomics.

Welcome Day: a chance to get acquainted with the School

On 20th November from 9.30 a.m. the International School for Advanced Studies has inaugurated the "Welcome Day", a chance to meet the scientists and the students at the school.

Special attention has been given to the students: this event has been open to the broad public and was a chance to welcome new students and to give the awards for the best PhD and Master's theses to those who have completed their studies at SISSA. A lecture by Claudio Bartocci (Professor at the University of Genova) on the famous mathematician Henri Poincaré closed this event.

September 28-30, 2012

The first edition of Trieste Next, European Innovation and Scientific Research Forum, was held in Trieste from 28th to 30th September 2012. The International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) participated as co-promoter and organised eight events for scientific dissemination.

Noam Chomsky in Trieste

The internationally known scientist Noam Chomsky received on 17th September an honorary PhD in Neuroscience from the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste. During his visit, the scientist held a Lectio Magistralis with the title "The minimalist program and language acquisition" in the Main Lecture Hall of the school.
