Ilaria Poggiolini gained her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Florence in 2006 with a thesis entitled “pH dependency of the reaction catalyzed by Ltp1, a phosphotyrosine phosphatase expressed in the yeast strain Saccharomyces Cerevisiae” . She then moved to Trieste, where she gained her master degree in Neuroscience with a thesis entitled “Expression of the Cellular Prion Protein in the Developmental Central Nervous System in the Mouse”.
In 2008 she began her PhD in Structural and Functional Genomics in Professor Giuseppe Legname’s laboratory (Neurobiology sector, SISSA). Her research project is focused on the role of the cellular prion protein in the neurodevelopment of the opossum “Monodelphis domestica”. She is also interested in the structural characterization of the opossum prion protein.
