Synaptic plasticity in development:

This project combines electrophysiological, video imaging and molecular biology techniques to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity processes in the hippocapmus during development. We are particularly interested in understanding:
i. The processes regulating spontaneous oscillatory activity mediated by the depolarizing action of GABA in the early postnatal period.
ii. The circuitry involved.
iii. How activity shapes GABAergic and glutamatergic synaptic currents and the transduction mechanisms involved. Moreover, we are interested in elucidating the mechanisms regulating the phasic and tonic release of GABA in the immature hippocampus
