The scientific research at SISSA is organized into sectors. At present there are 8 active sectors which cover different branches of Physics, Mathemathics and Biology. The sectors can autonomously set their own policies concerning their scientific activities, teaching and administration of funds. Each sector can invite visiting scientists and post-doctoral fellows within the limits of its own funds. These decisions are taken by a Sector Council, consisting of the scientific staff of the sector and two student representatives.
