FVG-MIT project is a new 3 year agreement recently signed by SISSA, the University of Trieste, the University of Udine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that aims to boost Friuli Venezia Giulia’s excellence by inserting it in a high-standard global net.
The initiative will include various activities and will be supported by Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia with funding of €150,000 per year. The main action is the implementation of “Seed funds”, which are useful tools to trigger new collaborations between FVG scientists and their MIT colleagues. They consist of a series of fellowships (each one in the amount of up to € 25,000) that are designed to allow researchers and laboratories to make contact, to plan possible joint projects and to start early-stage cooperation.
PhD students will be involved in the research projects and will have the chance to spend some working period in the partners’ laboratories. A part of the funding will be destined to cover the travel costs of professors and researchers from FVG and MIT interested in establishing new overseas partnerships. FVG-MIT project is inspired and shaped on the structure of other seed funds managed by MIT’s MISTI (MIT International Science and Technology initiatives) programme. Applications for the funding must be submitted on the MIT website.
Il progetto FVG-MIT è un nuovo accordo firmato di recente dalla SISSA, dall’Università di Trieste, dall'Università di Udine e dal Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) che ha l’obiettivo di valorizzare le eccellenze del Friuli Venezia Giulia inserendole in una rete globale di altissimo profilo.
L’iniziativa includerà diverse attività e sarà supportata dalla Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia con un finanziamento di 150.000 euro all'anno. L’azione principale si focalizzerà sui “Seed funds”, strumenti di facilitazione che mirano alla creazione di nuove collaborazioni tra gli scienziati del Friuli Venezia Giulia e i loro colleghi dell’MIT. I seed funds consisteranno di una serie di borse (fino a 25.000 ciascuna) pensate per permettere a ricercatori e laboratori di creare contatti, pianificare progetti congiunti e iniziare a lavorare insieme. Gli studenti di PhD saranno coinvolti nei progetti di ricerca e avranno la possibilità di lavorare nei laboratori dei diversi partner.
Una parte dei finanziamenti sarà destinato a coprire le spese di viaggio dei ricercatori della regione e dell’MIT interessati a stabilire nuove collaborazioni oltreoceano. Il progetto FVG-MIT è ispirato e modellato sulla struttura di altri seed funds del programma MISTI (MIT International Science and Technology initiatives) dell’MIT.
