  Bio Info

I am originally from a small town called Salara, in the nearby of Ferrara, Italy. I received a degree ("laurea") in Electronic Engineering in 1996, from the University of Padua, Italy and a PhD in Optimization and Systems Theory from the Royal Institute of Technology , Stockholm, Sweden, in 2001. In 1995 I worked for ABB Industrial Systems in Västerås, Sweden. In 1996 I held a position as process control engineer at Cerestar Italia SpA. In '97 I was a visiting student at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa and in 2000 at Control and Dynamical Systems, Caltech, California. I am now a assistant professor ("ricercatore" in italian) at SISSA. I recently started working on Systems Biology, i.e., data mining and modeling for Biological Systems. I am also working on Geometric Control methods applied to nonlinear systems. One particular application is the control of unitary operators in quantum mechanics, to be used in "manipulation" of atomic and molecular systems. A few years ago I was also interested in Robotics, in particular path planning and navigation for autonomous robots.
