The Master's course in Science Communication "Franco Prattico" is a two-year course for those who wish to pursue a career as science communicators. Several areas are covered: newspaper, radio, TV and online journalism, institutional and business communication, traditional and multimedia publishing, and museology. The Master was established in 1993 and since then over 250 students have been trained. 80% of this Master's course graduates work in the field of Science Communication.

This Master's course relies on a wide contact network which includes the top level professionals in the field of science communication. In the current academic year the teaching staff includes: Gianna Milano (journalist), Pietro Greco (science journalist), Sergio Maistrello (expert in digital media, Apogeonline), Cristiana Pulcinelli (working for the Italian national newspaper L'Unità), Paola Rodari (expert in science museology, SISSA Medialab), Martha Fabbri (Mondadori publishing), Alberto Silvani (research director at the National Research Council of Italy - CNR), Giancarlo Sturloni (expert in risk communication) and many others.

Admission to the Master's course is open to students who hold a Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree or any post-secondary academic degree.

THE COURSES

This two-year Master's programme includes eight monthly sessions each year, held from November to June. In the first year, students are required to attend an eight-day course in each session, for a total of 500 tuition hours. In the second year, each monthly session is made up of a five-day course. Attendance is compulsory.

Students are also required to write a thesis, with the supervision of one or more teachers.

In the first and second year, students may join stages in editorial offices, press agencies, museums, publishing houses, companies or research institutes.
