The PhD program in Geometry covers wide spectrum of topics in modern algebraic and differential geometry and their applications
The main research areas are:
- Deformation theory, moduli spaces, geometric invariants
- Noncommutative geometry
- Symplectic geometry, sub-riemannian geometry
- Geometry of quantum fields and strings
In the first year of their PhD program, students attend both basic and more advanced courses and a tutor is assigned to each of them. In their second year students start a research project under the supervision of a staff member of the Area, sometimes in a collaboration with an external expert. Second year students must submit a brief résumé of the methods and perspectives of their research project and discuss it in the "Qualifying Examination". After three to four years students submit and defend their PhD thesis. If the defence is evaluated favourably, they are awarded a PhD degree in Geometry.
THE MOST RECENT PLACEMENTS AFTER PHD AT SISSA:

Short fellowships may be awarded to students who will sit the entrance exam. Such fellowships will cover travel and accommodation expenses and will entitle students to stay in the school before the selection. Click here for further information. Partial refund of travel expenses is available to students who will go through the written entrance exam.
