Cognitive Neuropsychology and Brain Imaging Lab

The empirical work of the group has three strands: neuropsychological, functional imaging and TMS. The main cognitive domains of interest are: semantics, actions, object processing, executive functions and memory.

Our theoretical framework is that functional neuroimaging studies WITHOUT neuropsychological patients studies are of much less theoretical relevance for understanding cognition than if the parallel neuropsychological studies are carried out (the reverse does not hold). Therefore patient-based cognitive neuropsychological research remains crucial for cognitive neuroscience.

Our neuropsychological research depends on strong links with the hospitals (Ospedale Santa Maria della Misericordia, Udine; Ospedali Riuniti, Trieste). The agreement with clinicians working in these centres has been very fruitful in providing sophisticated collaborations and ample access to theoretically relevant patient groups.
