Astrophysics

Astrophysics Curriculum

The duration of the PhD course is three years with the possibility of an extension to four. Part of our PhD programme is covered by coursework which is an integral and necessary part of our educational system.

Courses

The courses will be delivered by the staff members and external lecturers, covering:

  • Stellar Structure and Evolution
  • General Relativity
  • Numerical Methods for Astrophysics
  • High Energy Astrophysics and AGN
  • Physical Cosmology

A description of the courses and of the associated credits and timetable can be found in the documents on the right hand side of this page.

Duration of courses

All of the coursework will be completed, in general, by the end of May of the first year so that a substantial time is left entirely for research (two and a half years).

Examination Procedure

Exams on each course consist of 'homework' assignments (exercises, essays, etc.) given during the course, an oral exam or a lecture on a specific topic at the end of the course, or a combination of them.
