Right after the arrivals gates find the ticket vending machines for the bus shuttle to Trieste (operated by APT), purchase your ticket, leave the terminal through the nearby exit, and walk to the right up to the the parking, where coaches start from. Line E51, time table HERE. Arrival at Trieste coach terminal, next to the railway station.
DIRECTIONS - from Venice airport to town:
City bus line 15 or bus shuttle from the arrival terminal to Venezia Mestre train station. Info and schedule HERE. Then a ~1h 50' regional train from Venezia Mestre to Trieste Central, operated by Trenitalia: schedule HERE, tickets sold inside Mestre station (not on board). Do not confuse this with the longer (~2h 50') train connection to Trieste, which calls first at Udine.
DIRECTIONS - from town to SISSA:
City bus line 38, starting station at Piazza Oberdan / via Galatti, end station at Santorio / SISSA. Runs every 20 min (every 30 min on Sundays). Takes about 12 min. Schedule HERE. Tickets sold at the tobacconist as well as at the newspaper shops in Piazza Oberdan, not on board. For mid-term stays, the 10 runs ticket is recommended, each run = 60 min (240 min on Sundays).
